Keira Knightley played Sabé one of Padmé Amidala’s handmaidens, in The Phantom Menace. During most of the
Sabé was one of Knightley’s first acting roles. She was twelve years old when she filmed The Phantom Menace. She was cast in part because of how much she looked like the actress who played Queen Amidala, Natalie Portman.
Knightley talked a bit about playing Sabé (and how little she knew about her role) in this interview on The Graham Norton Show.
Since The Phantom Menace Knightley has appeared in dozens of films and TV programs including Bend It Like Beckham, Love Actually, Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, and The Imitation Game. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her roles in The Imitation Game and Pride & Prejudice.
To many moviegers she is most well-known for playing Elizabeth Swann in four Pirates of the Caribbean films.
