Victoria Mahoney is the second unit director for Star Wars: Episode IX. She is the first woman to have a directing role in a Star Wars film. (Note: There have been a few female assistant directors in Star Wars – see Samantha Smith – but second unit directors are completely different roles than assistant directors. See this article from The A.V. Club to learn more about what second unit directors do on films like Star Wars.)
Previous to Episode IX Mahoney has worked as a director, writer, producer, and actress. Her directing credits include episodes of Queen Sugar, Grey’s Anatomy, American Crime, and Power. She also wrote, produced, and directed the 2011 film Yelling to the Sky.
As an actress, Mahoney appeared in an episode of Seinfeld and she played a reporter in Legally Blonde.
