Tales from the Podcast Stage – Skytalkers at Star Wars Celebration Chicago

Tales from the Podcast Stage continues with Skytalkers.

Tell me a bit about your Celebration experience. How many have you been to? Have you ever been on the podcast stage before (or applied but didn’t make it before)? Why did you apply to be on the podcast stage?

This was our third Celebration, our first being in 2010 with Celebration V in Orlando. After a couple of years hiatus during college, we came back for Celebration Orlando in 2017. Skytalkers was pretty new then, so we didn’t apply for the podcast stage but set it as a goal for next Celebration. When the applications opened, we applied right away and anxiously awaited. We were overjoyed and shocked when we made it!

How did you prepare for the podcast stage? Did you have a set structure for the conversation? Did you invite guests? Give out SWAG? Do giveaways?

Our preparations for the podcast stage would have looked a bit different had we not been immediately after the Episode IX panel — usually, our podcast is pretty structured in 3 acts with a selected theme. But here… we absolutely had to react and discuss the teaser and title reveal for The Rise of Skywalker. The IX panel was right before our live show so, the podcast stage room became an impromptu streaming room where we could all watch it together and react in real time.

No guests for us, but we did have swag! We put together a swag bag with buttons, stickers, a bookmark, and Starbursts. An in-joke for our podcast is referencing a Bingo card for all the things we say all the time — and we actually made one! We were lucky to partner with Looking for Leia, too, to give away one of their swag bags, and we also gave away a copy of Queen’s Shadow.

What were the highlights from your appearance on the podcast stage? Any big surprises (good or bad)?

The highlight was reacting real-time to what we all just witnessed with the Episode IX teaser! The panel became a bit of a group therapy session as everyone had something they noticed that maybe we didn’t — and we were able to discuss it. It was so great, and we wish every single podcast could be this conversational.

Another highlight was a panel attendee actually had a copy of The Last Jedi novelization — something we reference a lot in our speculation. We were able to read from it in real time to back up our on-the-spot speculation! On top of that, meeting a ton of our listeners finally during the panel and then outside after was so incredible.

Is there anything you wish you would have done differently?

If we are granted a next time (!!!) — we’d love to cover a singular topic like we do on the podcast. However, reacting to the teaser and title will remain one of the most special experiences ever for us.

Will you be at Anaheim in 2020 and if so do you think you’ll apply to be on the podcast stage again?

Absolutely… wouldn’t miss it! And yes, we’ll apply! Fingers crossed because it was absolutely the best time.
