Day 521 – Suzy Rice

Suzy Rice designed the iconic opening credits logo for Star Wars.

Rice was 22 when she designed the logo while working for Seiniger Advertising. In Chris Taylor’s book How Star Wars Conquered the Universe Rice recounted how George Lucas told her he wanted to logo that would intimidate the audience. He also said he wanted it to look “very fascist.”

Her original logo had a pointy “W”.

The final product would go on to become one of the most recognizable logos in the world.
