Day 363 – Liz Moore

Liz Moore

Liz Moore was a sculptor who helped create the designs for C-3PO and the original stormtrooper helmet for A New Hope.

I have learned so many wonderful things throughout the year while profiling women for 365 Days of Star Wars Women. Learning about Liz Moore is probably my favorite discovery of them all.

Moore worked on two Stanley Kubrick’s films: 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange before she joined the art department team on A New Hope. According to the book Star Wars: Stormtroopers Beyond the Armor Moore’s stormtrooper helmet sculpt was the one George Lucas initially approved.

Sadly Moore never got to see her creations on screen, or even on set, as she died in a car accident a few weeks before filming began on A New Hope.

In the article “C-3PO” from Star Wars Insider 25 Anthony Daniels spoke of how sad he was that Moore “never saw her Threepio come alive.” Her work for A New Hope is uncredited but I think all Star Wars fans can agree that her contribution to the galaxy far, far, away was impactful.

To learn more about Moore’s work on A New Hope check out Star Wars Insider 25 and Star Wars: Stormtroopers Beyond the Armor.

Check out the entire list of women in 365 Days of Star Wars Women in the Women in Star Wars Index. It includes highlights from each post plus notes which posts include new 365 interviews with actresses, writers, artists, and more.
